From Overlocker Anxiety to Stitching Joy
Your overlocker shouldn’t feel intimidating – it should feel empowering. But for many sewists, it’s still the machine they avoid. Threading confusion, tension issues, rippled seams… sound familiar?
Let’s change that.
The Overlocker Cushion Workshop is a two half-day, hands-on experience designed to help you finally feel at home with your overlocker – by creating something beautiful and functional from start to finish. You’ll stitch a one-of-a-kind cushion top using only your overlocker. No sewing machine needed!
Discover the Power of Using an Overlocker
We’ll start with the basics – threading, maintenance, tension – and move quickly into technique:
- Using 2-, 3-, and 4-thread stitches with confidence
- Overlocking curves, corners, and crisp grids
- Playing with differential feed to avoid ripples or stretching
- Creating strong, decorative seams like the ones in the sample cushion
- Troubleshooting your machine like a pro
By the end, you’ll have stitched a full cushion top, complete with neat corners and a centre starburst – all done with your overlocker.
Been to our Basic Overlocker Machine Training?
Perfect! This workshop is a natural next step. You’ll build on the threading and stitching skills you already know – this time with a full project to show for it.
Never done the basic class? You’re still welcome! We’ll guide you through everything. This workshop is open to confident beginners and up, whether you’re brand new to your overlocker or looking to reconnect with it.
From Fear to Finish
Overlockers can feel intimidating – until they don’t. Once you understand yours, something shifts: sewing becomes faster, neater, more satisfying. You move from hesitation to flow, from frustration to confidence.
This workshop gives you that shift. You’ll walk away with more than just new skills – you’ll leave with a completed cushion top, made entirely on your overlocker.
And with it, a quiet sense of pride: “I made this. No sewing machine. Just me and my overlocker.”
You’ll also take home the pattern, new techniques and the confidence to create more – without fear holding you back.

What do I need to bring to class?
- Your overlocker (cleaned, serviced within the last 6-8 months and ready for some sewing!)
- Your sewing kit
- Your overlocker accessories
What's in the kit?
Your kit includes pre-cut fabric strips – all ready for you to dive straight into making your cushion without worrying about measuring or cutting.
We’ll also provide thread to use during the workshop. However, please note that it’s our in-house thread and can’t be taken home.
Can I bring my own fabric and thread?
For this particular workshop, we provide a complete kit with pre-cut fabric strips, so we kindly ask that you don’t bring your own fabric.
We’ve tried it before and while we totally understand the excitement of choosing your own fabric, it often leads to measuring mishaps – and unfortunately, a cushion that doesn’t come out quite right. To keep things smooth and stress-free, we’ve prepared kits that ensure everything lines up beautifully.
Once you’ve made your cushion, you’ll receive the full pattern so you can confidently recreate it at home in any fabric you like. 😊
I can sew and have an overlocker, but have never overlocked before. Can I attend this workshop?
Absolutely, you’re not alone – this is actually more common than you’d think! Many people can sew beautifully but have never quite gotten around to using their overlocker. This workshop is the perfect place to start.
You are most welcome to join us. We’ll guide you step by step, and by the end of the weekend, you’ll feel far more confident with your machine.
Just make sure your overlocker is clean, in working condition and has been serviced within the last 6 to 8 months. A happy machine makes for a happy sewist – and a much smoother workshop experience! 😊
How do I book?
We’ve made booking your workshop seat easier than ever! You can now buy your ticket and pay immediately online via credit card, debit card, or EFT – quick, safe and secure through iKhokha.
Feel uncomfortable with paying online? No problem! On checkout, you can select to pay in-shop or via your own banking app on your cellphone.
Here’s how it works, step by step:
Step 1: Choose Your Tickets
- Look for the section labelled “Tickets” (as shown in the first image).
- Click the plus (+) icon to select how many tickets you’d like to buy. Booking for a friend? Simply increase the number!
- Once you’ve selected the quantity, click the “Get Tickets” button.
Step 2: Enter Attendee Details
- You’ll be taken to the Tickets page.
- For each ticket, complete the attendee’s details.
- This allows you to book seats for yourself and any friends you’re bringing along.
Step 3: Checkout & Payment
- After entering attendee details, click “Checkout Now.”
- You’ll be prompted to enter the payee’s information (the person making payment).
- Should you opt to pay via card online, the final step will direct you to the secure iKhokha payment page, where you can pay online using your preferred method.
That’s it! You’ll receive an email with your ticket shortly after.
