A Structured Bag That’s Surprisingly Simple - and Seriously Fun
If you enjoy sewing projects that feel neat, useful and a little bit addictive, you’ll love making this Boston Bag. It’s got that polished, shop-bought look – but without the usual complications. No pockets, no foam, no fuss. Just a clean zip-top finish, sturdy shape, piped edges, and strong straps.
What to Expect
In this two-part workshop, you’ll make a 350×150×200mm handbag that holds its shape beautifully thanks to boxed corners and a solid base. You can choose to sew it using a single piece of plain fabric for a clean, modern look—or go for the strip version shown in the photos, which uses five different fabrics for a more playful, patchwork feel.
The finishes are what really make this bag shine:

- D-rings to attach your handle
- A hardboard base to keep everything firm and upright
What's Included In The Kit?
We’ve included everything you need in the kit: the pattern, fabric, zip, handle and base. Just bring along matching thread. (Pop in during the week before the workshop to choose your kit and thread colour.)

This is one of our most popular workshops – and for good reason! One of our sewists made eight of these bags and gave them away as gifts. Another mother-daughter team started a small business selling their Boston Bags!
Whether you’re fairly new to sewing or have years of experience behind the machine, this project is a great balance of fun, function, and finishing.
FAQ
What do I need to bring to class?
REQUIRED
- Your sewing machine
- Your sewing accessories
- Roller cutter
- Cutting board
- Long straight ruler 6×24″ or 6 x 12″
- Fabric marking pen
- Matching sewing thread
FABRIC
- Your own fabric. A Whatsapp group will be created where detail pertaining to colours and measurements will be discussed.
Where to Buy Items
- All haberdashery and sewing items can be purchased from us – at the latest a day before we start.
Can I bring my own fabric?
To keep things running smoothly and make sure everyone has the right materials, all participants are required to use the supplied kit. This includes your pattern, fabric, zip, handle and base board. You’ll still get to choose your favourite kit in advance – just pop in during the week to select the one you love most!
How do I book?
We’ve made booking your workshop seat easier than ever! You can now buy your ticket and pay immediately online via credit card, debit card, or EFT — quick, safe, and secure through iKhokha.
Here’s how it works, step by step:
Step 1: Choose Your Tickets
- Look for the section labelled “Tickets” (as shown in the first image).
- Click the plus (+) icon to select how many tickets you’d like to buy. Booking for a friend? Simply increase the number!
- Once you’ve selected the quantity, click the “Get Tickets” button.
Step 2: Enter Attendee Details
- You’ll be taken to the Tickets page.
- For each ticket, complete the attendee’s details.
- This allows you to book seats for yourself and any friends you’re bringing along.
Step 3: Checkout & Payment
- After entering attendee details, click “Checkout Now.”
- You’ll be prompted to enter the payee’s information (the person making payment).
- The final step will direct you to the secure iKhokha payment page, where you can pay online using your preferred method.
That’s it! You’ll receive an email with your ticket shortly after.
