Bargello Quilt

Tuesday, 9 June, 2026 - Thursday, 11 June, 2026

Create a quilt that seems to move...

There’s something almost magical about a Bargello quilt. Those flowing, wave-like patterns that seem to ripple across the fabric? They’re created from strips of fabric – and the technique is far more approachable than it looks. If you can sew a straight seam, you can do this!

Join us for this intimate, hands-on Bargello Quilt Workshop – just six participants, three guided half-day sessions, and one beautiful project to take home and finish. Whether you’re a confident beginner curious about quilting, or an experienced sewist ready to try something new and spectacular, this workshop will meet you exactly where you are.

And because we keep the group deliberately small, you’ll get the personal attention and guidance you need to succeed – every step of the way.

The Information Session

We kick things off with a dedicated information session on Saturday, 6 June 2026. This is your opportunity to ask the instructor questions, get clarity on your fabric selection in order to arrive on Day 1 feeling fully prepared and confident!

The Programme

DAY 1:
Tuesday, 9 June – 9:00 – 12:00
Fabric, Colour & Cutting (No sewing machine needed here)

We start with the most important decision in any Bargello quilt: your fabric selection. You’ll learn how to choose and arrange your 10 fabric strips across a light-to-medium-to-dark value gradient – the secret behind that signature wave effect. Once your fabrics are carefully selected, you’ll cut your strips and arrange them in your fabric ledger.

Your instructor will also walk you through exactly how to stitch your strips together – so that you can confidently complete that step at home before Day 2.

Day 2:
Wednesday, 10 June – 09:00 – 12:00
Building the Bargello

With your strip sets ready, the real transformation begins. Following detailed written instructions, you’ll cut and sew the top half of your fabric strip, learning how the Bargello pattern emerges as each section shifts and stacks. The bottom half of the fabric strip is completed at home between sessions, keeping the momentum going.

Day 3:
Thursday, 11 June – 09:00 – 12:00
The Sandwich & Binding

On the final day, you’ll assemble your quilt sandwich — layering your quilt top, batting, and backing. Also, prepare the binding that will give your quilt its beautiful, finished edge. From here, the final finishing touches are completed in your own time at home, so you can take pride in crossing that finish line yourself.

What You'll Walk Away With

By the end of the workshop, you will have:

  • A fully assembled quilt sandwich, ready to be finished at home
  • Your binding prepared and ready to apply
  • A clear understanding of colour value and how to use it in quilting
  • The skills and confidence to plan and construct a Bargello design independently
  • A finished quilt measuring 19.5″ x 49.25″ — once you’ve added those final touches at home!
